Neil Lang
Born in New-York in 1967
Lives and works in Paris

Neil Lang spent his childhood in New York where his father, a painter, immersed him in the artistic community of the Village. It was in France where he began to understand the art of photography as he fulfilled his role of photography technician in the Air Force. He then began working in the realm of media and advertising, where, as director of the department of communication for a magazine of arts and culture, he quickly realized the importance of the image.

His next phase was to create and manage a creative agency that produced campaigns for fashion houses and luxury brands, successfully collaborating with Karl Lagerfeld; Ungaro, Oscar de la Renta, Loris Azzaro…

For the last ten years he has participated in the production and diffusion of art photography, working with artists of various backgrounds and nationalities, all the while developing a photographic practice in which emotion and contemplation lend themselves to an environmental and scientific inquiry.

To hear the silence.

To observe nature at night. Exposing its magic in contrasting light. Playing with cold lighting and temperature.
Night becomes an envelope of creation, a moment of exchange with nature. Its silence can nearly be heard.
A paradoxical world in which science and intuition coexist.
In exposing the delicate balance between objects, Neil Lang searches for the obvious interactions that animate parallel and autonomous universes.
He offers both an image, that of an imaginary opening, and, at the same time, concepts fundamental to nature.
Universe, stars, orbit, gravity, fundamental systems of nature that are constantly in motion. Contradictory and essential, this movement creates a balance that the artist evokes as if witness to a phenomenon as much physical as aesthetic.

We look to Walter Benjamin and the aura that plunges us into a world of rationality, all the while recognizing, with the value attributed to the work of art, the possibility of another source of knowledge that is not rational, but magic…

Vit et travaille à Paris

Neil Lang passe son enfance à New York où son père, peintre, l’amène à côtoyer le milieu artistique du Village. C’est en France qu’il se forme à la photographie au sein de l’armée de l’air où il sera recruté comme technicien photographe. Il se dirige alors vers la presse et la publicité et se confronte à l’immédiateté du rapport à l’image en dirigeant la communication d’un magazine d’actualité culturelle. Par la suite il crée et manage une agence de création interactive qui réalise des productions pour les grandes marques de la mode, du luxe et du design comme Karl Lagerfeld, Ungaro, Oscar de la Renta, Loris Azzaro... Depuis dix ans il collabore à la production et à la diffusion de la photographie plasticienne, auprès d’artistes internationaux tout en développant une pratique de la photographie où l’émotion et la contemplation s’entremêlent dans des questionnements environnementaux et scientifiques.

Entendre le silence
Une poésie intrigante.

Comme une narration qui se crée.
Observer la nature la nuit. Révéler sa magie par des lumières et des contrastes très forts. Jouer avec des températures de lumières très froides.
La nuit devient une enveloppe de création, un moment d’échange avec la nature. On entend presque son silence.
Un monde paradoxal où science et intuition se côtoient.
En révélant les équilibres fragiles entres les objets, Neil Lang recherche les interactions évidentes qui sont les fondements d’univers et de mondes parallèles et autonomes.
Il délivre à la fois une image, au statut d’ouverture irréelle, et dans un même espace-temps il met au jour des concepts fondamentaux inscrits dans la nature.
Univers, Etoiles, Orbite, Gravité, les systèmes fondamentaux de notre nature sont en perpétuel mouvement. Contradictoire et indispensable, ce mouvement crée un équilibre bien établi que l’artiste fait apparaître, témoignage d’un phénomène tant physique qu’esthétique.
On pense alors à Walter Benjamin et l’aura qui nous baigne dans un monde rationnel tout en reconnaissant, à travers la valeur attribuée à l’œuvre d’art, une autre source possible de la connaissance qui ne serait pas rationnelle mais magique…
